Why is it very important to understand and follow the instructions for use when using high-grade glycolic acid gel peels?

Over the years we have sold several thousand high grade glycolic acid gel peels worldwide and received very good feedback from the majority of our customers (90% plus), however on the fringe (10% or less) we received very mixed feedback. Although the vast majority of feedback is excellent which gave us the confidence to provide the full money back guarantee, there have always been extreme fringe feedback. A minority of people said the product burned their skin and others said it had no effect (no burning or peeling at all). How is that possible? A minority of people say it is so strong it is dangerous, while others say it does nothing… There are several factors that contribute to this. The main one is the way the product is used. Depending on how you use the product you will have very different results. But the other factor is the type of skin you use the product on. Some people do not do the patch tests which are designed to teach the user the effects of the product on their particular type of skin. Invariably, some people skip this process and go ahead and apply the product on their eyelids for say, an hour and then end up with swollen eyelids for a while and become concerned. Others are extremely cautious and only apply the product for 10 minutes at a time and become frustrated with the lack of results. Therefore, it is imperative that you understand the instructions and take your time to familiarize yourself with how this type of potent glycolic acid gel works. High grade gels (70% glycolic acid) are very potent skin ablators and as such should be used with the utmost care and expertise possible. This type of product is very similar to any aesthetic instrument for skin ablation. This type of product can produce very different results depending on how it is used and the type of skin it is used on. Despite detailed information in the instructions, a very small minority of people (10% to 5% of our client base) bypass patch testing and apply it for only 10 minutes, while others leave it on the area for hours and get very different results. Those who apply it for only 10 minutes often experience no effect and complain that the product does not work and those who apply it for hours sometimes complain that the product is too strong and they feel like the product has burned them. As you will see later, also a minority of people who use this type of gel, even though they have applied it to the area for hours, experience very little burning and peeling, this is because some skin types are very oily. He said that the vast majority (90% or more) of our client base can follow along with the instructions and troubleshoot in case things don’t go as planned. Why patch testing and why is it so important?

High grade glycolic acid gel peels are powerful ablators. The degradation of the burn depends on three factors:

1 duration of applications

2The application area, where the gel has been applied to the skin.

3 the amount of oil on the skin.

As a matter of fact, there are no instructions available for this product which is suitable for all applications and for all people in the same way. Everyone has a different skin type and therefore a different reaction to High Grade Glycolic Acid for their   particular aesthetic application. the upper eyelid for upper eyelid lift for example, one person may achieve the desired exfoliation results without any degreasing in particular and only 40 minutes of application, while another person may need to degrease with vinegar and 1 hour of application to achieve the desired exfoliation results.

Duration of the request.

The effects of high-grade glycolic acid gels depend on the time of application. In general, the longer the chemical peel is applied to the skin, the deeper the effects are. In a traditional cosmetic chemical peel, the cosmetic doctor (or dermatologist) uses a neutralizer after a specific period of time to stop the ablative effects of the chemical peel solution. Typically, the chemical peel is a relatively potent acid and the neutralizer is a base. On the other hand, when applying a think gel, the process is different. There is no need for a neutralizer, the ablative effects of the peel are simply stopped by washing the area with water.

On which area of the skin the gel has been applied.

Different areas of the skin have different application modalities. For example, the upper eyelid area is more delicate and experiences not only peeling but also swelling that is not limited to the upper eyelid area. Whereas if the gel is used to fade stretch marks or fade acne scars, the application area is usually much less delicate than the upper eyelid area.

That is why there are more delicate areas that exfoliate and react differently to others and the application method differs accordingly. Also the effects on

The amount of oil in the skin and the ablative effects of glycolic acid.

Naturally, skin produces an oily layer that protects it from the outside world. This is called the sebum barrier. This substance acts as a shield from the outside world, and the skin continually produces it. This sebum barrier also acts as a very effective barrier to chemical peels.

Different individuals produce different amounts of sebum on the skin. Thus, different individuals present different results to the same application of the product performed in a similar manner. For example, person A might have a very high degree of exfoliation when the high-grade gel is applied for 30 minutes, while the same duration of application on person B has no effect. This happens very often. Each person’s skin reaction can differ dramatically from another. Some people experience a high degree of exfoliation.

Please note that even if you don’t say your skin is oily, it may still be oily and may have intrinsic barrier protection that you are not aware of. In other words, it is not always possible to assess the degree of natural protection your skin has. It will become apparent only after you start applying the high-grade glycolic acid gel.

Prepare the peel for exfoliations with the Keratosis Pilaris.

It is very important to prepare the skin or area where you want to apply the Glycolic Acid gel in order to obtain the desired skin exfoliation effects. The most important part of the preparation is degreasing the skin.

Why is it important to reduce the skin before removing a chemical peel with glycolic acid gel?

The skin has an oily fat layer that is meant to protect the skin from the elements and different agents. These layers also protect the skin from the ablative effects of glycolic acid.

If you go to the dermatologist’s office to get a professional chemical peel treatment, what you’ll find is that the dermatologists Cosmetic Practitioner has a procedure during which your skin is degreased before any open chemical peel is applied to your face. This layer of oil protection is not evenly distributed on anyone’s skin. Some areas have more and some have less. If you apply the high-grade glycolic acid gel to your skin without tapering it off you’ll see some areas exfoliate more than others. It’s like the atonement is coming in patches.

Whenever applying the product on seborrheic keratosis, use Vaseline to cover the skin not affected by seborrheic keratosis leaving only the seborrheic keratosis exposed.  Ask another person to apply the product for you and monitor the time. Do not use the product yourself.   It is highly recommended to keep your eyes closed while applying Keratosis Pilaris on the upper eyelids and have another person monitor that the gel does not come into contact with your eyes.

Day One:    Apply a small amount of gel under the chin area and on the forearm, the area to be covered should not exceed 0.5 square cm (small area). Keep the gel for 3 minutes maximum. Wipe off with a clean cotton pad for makeup and rinse with water. If the treated part is red and itchy for more than 24 hours, avoid using the product.

Day two:    Apply a small amount of gel elsewhere under the chin and forearm area, the area to be covered should not exceed 0.5 square cm (small area). Keep the gel for 10 minutes maximum. Wipe off and rinse with water.

Day three:    Apply a small amount of gel elsewhere under the chin and forearm area, the area to be covered should not exceed 0.5 square cm (small area). Keep the gel on for 15 minutes maximum. Wipe off and rinse with water.

These patch tests will help you ensure that you do not have any adverse reactions to the gel. In addition, you will learn how to use the product by observing the exfoliation effects after a short duration of application.

Day five:    Apply a small amount of gel to a seborrheic keratosis. Keep the gel on for 60 seconds maximum. Wipe and rinse with water. Make sure the gel does not come into contact with your eyes.

Day six:    Apply a small amount of gel to another seborrheic keratosis. Leave the gel on for a maximum of 5 minutes. Wipe off and rinse with water. Make sure the gel does not come into contact with your eyes.

Day seven:    Apply a small amount of gel to another seborrheic keratosis. Leave the gel on for a maximum of 10 minutes. Wipe off and rinse with water. Make sure the gel does not come into contact with your eyes.

Observe the effects of the peel on the seborrheic keratosis treated with the cosmetic peel for the next three days. If you notice any unwanted effects, stop using the product.

Day Eleven:    You should have learned that the longer you keep the gel on, the stronger and deeper the peeling effects of the product will be. Apply the gel on a fourth untreated seborrheic keratosis and keep the gel on for 20 minutes, no more. Wipe and rinse with water. Make sure the gel does not come in contact with your eyes. In case you have only one or two seborrheic keratoses, wait a minimum of one week (not one day) between each patch test application on the same seborrheic keratosis.

The above patch tests will help you get used to the way the Gel acts on your skin. You should have learned that the longer you keep the gel on, the greater the exfoliating effects of the product on your seborrheic keratosis. In the unlikely event of an adverse reaction to the gel, discontinue use.

Application mode

  • Wash your hands.
  • Clean and dry well the area where the product will be applied.
  • Use a clean cotton swab to apply
  • WARNING Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use in children. The product is intended for topical use on intact skin only.
  • Wipe with a clean makeup remover cotton pad and rinse with warm water for the maximum period specified only after completing the patch test procedure described.

Allow a minimum interval of 2 weeks between applications on the same seborrheic keratosis. In the unlikely event that the crusting/peeling process is still ongoing after the 2-week interval, wait until the area has returned to normal to reapply. DO NOT USE MAKEUP ON THE AREA WHERE YOU HAVE USED THE PRODUCT UNTIL THE PEELING EFFECT HAS PASSED.

The maximum duration of each application after patch testing is 20 minutes. You should avoid over-application of the product and be patient in removing your seborrheic keratosis. After patch testing, apply Keratosis Pilaris only to your seborrheic keratosis and avoid applying it to areas that are not affected by seborrheic keratosis, even if they are covered with petroleum jelly.

Following the maximum suggested application duration, the estimated applications to remove an average seborrheic keratosis would be in the region of 7 to 10. In most cases, seborrheic keratosis is removed in 4 sessions.

The longer the Product is kept on the seborrheic keratosis during each application, the greater the peeling effects will be. As a consequence, the longer you keep your formulation on your seborrheic keratosis, the fewer applications will be necessary to achieve satisfactory results. Some of our clients have been able to achieve the desired results in 1 or 2 sessions simply by keeping the gel on for more than 1 hour per application. We strongly recommend being conservative and only using the gel for the maximum duration of 20 minutes at a time to achieve maximum safety from the cosmetic treatment.

On the contrary, the less you keep it on the seborrheic keratosis, the more applications you will need to remove it.

Remember, once you have applied a full application to your seborrheic keratosis, wait two to three weeks before reapplying it. In any case, do not reapply the formulation before the area has recovered from the previous peel application. It is recommended to send us photos before reapplying Keratosis Pilaris. Send us your updated photos whenever you have doubts, we are here to help you achieve your desired results!

Also, before applying Keratosis Pilaris, please note that the crusting/peeling process may not look good for 7-10 days after application, so it is best to plan ahead and make sure you do not have any major events coming up. Do not apply any makeup during the peeling process.

It is highly recommended that you send us photos by email after each application to help us advise you.

Do not engage in dangerous or strenuous activities and DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF MAKEUP during the peeling or crusting process as this may jeopardize the peeling process, increase the chances of infections and therefore increase the risk of unnecessary complications including permanent scarring. Apply full sun protection/sunscreen after the peel until three months after you stop applying the gel and achieve the desired results. You should avoid any direct sun exposure for at least three months after applying the gel otherwise it may lead to hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation.

Please also remember that after full application, the area will require healing from the ablation of the product. When full application is performed on the upper eyelid area, the upper eyelids will swell and crust, which is unsightly and may feel uncomfortable for up to 7 days. Do not apply any other healing products or makeup during the crusting period, as this may compromise the healing of the skin.

Scar tissue may result due to the removal of seborrheic keratosis even through the use of cosmetic peels.

What should I do if the peeling effects are not strong enough for me? For example, I cannot remove a mole, I cannot get enough deep peeling effects, etc.

Keratosis Pilaris has a high concentration of glycolic acid and is therefore very strong per se. However, in some circumstances, the user would like to achieve very strong burning or peeling effects, especially when removing benign moles or performing very deep skin peels.

1) The best course of action is to increase the duration of application. The longer you keep the Product on the skin, moles, brown spots, etc., the deeper the burning or peeling effects will be.
2) If you keep the Keratosis Pilaris gel on for longer, you can increase the effects of Keratosis Pilaris by degreasing the skin before applying the Keratosis Pilaris. The natural way to do this is by applying vinegar to the skin before using the Keratosis Pilaris. First you have to wash the skin well, then dry it and finally, with a cotton pad moistened with vinegar, rub the skin several times with the cotton pad and vinegar. Dry the skin and apply the Keratosis Pilaris immediately afterwards. This will improve the effects of Keratosis Pilaris.
3) If using vinegar is not enough for you, the next step is a deep degreasing with acetone. Wash the part of the skin on which you want to apply the Keratosis Pilarisand once it is dry, apply acetone by rubbing it with a cotton cloth. Rub the skin area several times and then apply the Keratosis Pilaris once the skin is dry from the acetone. Be careful because the effects of the Keratosis Pilaris will be very different from before. The burns and peeling effects will be much deeper.
