Eyelid Swelling
Upper eyelid swelling is a common complaint made by some of our customers using the Xanthremover to remove their Xanthlasma from their upper eyelids. Swelling is to be expected after applying the Xanthremover on the upper eyelids.
In extreme cases the swelling can be so severe that vision is impaired for a day or two due to the excessive upper eyelid swelling. In order to avoid excessive upper eyelid swelling proper use of the Xanthremover has to be made.
There are several ways to minimise the swelling of the upper eyelids after each application of the Xanthremover.
The good news is that upper eyelid swelling is only temporary and it will disappear on its own, without any intervention of any type.
Why do the eyelids swell after the application of the Xanthremover on the upper eyelids?
The upper eyelid swelling is experienced after any treatment of the upper eyelids that involves ablation of the skin (burning of the skin). It does not matter whether this skin burn is performed with a laser , electrical arc of a chemical peel like the Xanthremover.
The upper eyelid swelling is a completely normal reaction to the treatment of the upper eyelids using any strong chemical peel.
How long does the swelling last?
The swelling usually appears the day after the Xanthremover application on the upper eyelids. The first or Second day are usually the worst.
The Good news is that the second or third day after the application of the Xanthremover, The swelling starts to subside on its own as long as no intervention is performed on the eyelids, such as medications, antihistamines, etc. If left alone, the swelling will subside, and the upper eyelids will eventually look even better than before.

How to reduce the upper eyelid swelling.
It is important to understand that upper eyelid swelling cannot be avoided completely after using the XanthRemover on the upper eyelids. However it can be minimised.
To use XanthRemover effectively while minimising the upper eyelids swelling, follow these precautions:
Perform the 11 to 12 days Patch Tests as per instructions.
the patch testing period is performed for at least 12 days and there is clear protocol for it.
The patch testing is required for the customers to train themselves to enable them to use the XanthRemover safely and get used to this product effects on the part of the skin they want to use it on.
What to Do If the upper eyelid swelling is excessive.
Once you know that excessive upper eyelid swelling can be a normal result of applying the product in an aggressive way then you may be reassured by the fact that also the swelling will subside on its own without any intervention
Refrain from using any medication or any other product on the affected area. Medications can cause unwanted complications which otherwise would not occur.
- Focus on keeping the eyelids clean so they will not get infected. For this use only tap water.
Protect the Area from the sun
Avoid exposing the eyelid area to direct sunlight until the swelling has subsided and the scabbing process is over. .
Monitor for Signs of Infection
If you notice increased redness, swelling, pus, or severe pain, seek medical attention.
Use not Healing Ointments
Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream or antibiotic ointments could present risks of acquiring infections and delay normal healing.
