The XanthRemover is an effective solution for reducing dark spots, pigmentation, and melasma. However, the natural skin regeneration process can be falsely interpreted as causing skin darkness.

After the XanthRemover is applied, there are generally three things that happen:

1 Swelling. If applied on the upper eyelids. The swelling of the upper eyelids occurs one or two days after the XanthRemover’s full application on the upper eyelids. If applied on other parts of the face or body, no swelling  usually occur.

2 Scabbing. This is what sometimes is interpreted as “darkness”, but the scabs will fall off on their own accord naturally. Scabbing is a normal effect of the skin healing after the application of the XanthRemover. This is becasue both scabs of dead skin appear darker than the sorrounding skin.

3 After the scabs fall off the new skin will have a different texture and colour. Normally this is pinkish but in certain skin types this new skin can be darker than the rest of the skin. This is also sometimes interpreted as “skin darkness”. However if the correct aftercare process is followed this different skin colout and texture will subside naturally over time too.

Understanding Post-Treatment Darkness

After using the XanthRemover, some users may experience temporary darkening of the treated area. This occurs due to the skin’s natural healing response. The dark layer is usually a scab or the old skin that is peeling off. This will fade as the skin regenerates. Following the correct procedure and aftercare can help speed up the healing process.

Proper application and aftercare are crucial in achieving the best results. This guide provides step-by-step instructions, including a mandatory patch test, to ensure a safe and successful treatment.

Mandatory Patch Test

Before applying the XanthRemover on your skin, patch testing are required to check your skin’s reaction and for you to learn how the product works on your skin. Each intended use of the XanthRemover has its own specific set of patch tests to be performed. Therefore follow the specific patch tests to your preferred application.

This is a general guidance but refer to the specific patch tests for the application you desire. Observing the Patch Test Results:

  • If the area heals normally without excessive redness or irritation, you can proceed to full application.

  • If you experience a strong reaction, irritation, discontinue use and allow the area to heal completely before considering another application.

Post-Treatment Aftercare for Faster Healing & Lightening

1. Hydration & Soothing Care

  • If you want, you can apply aloe vera gel to soothe the skin, however this is not required.

  • Avoid using exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs, retinol) or make up on the area for at least 2 weeks.

2. Sun Protection (Essential)

  • Always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 50+) before going outdoors.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, as unprotected exposure can worsen dark/sun spots.

What to Expect After Using XanthRemover?

  • Peeling/Scabbing: This is normal and part of the healing process. DO NOT pick or scratch the skin.

  • Temporary Darkness: The area may appear darker before it gets lighter. This is the skin regenerating. Because the old skin that is peeling off can be darker than the new skin.

  • Fading & Healing: Full results are visible in 4–6 weeks with proper aftercare.

When to Stop Using The XanthRemover?

Discontinue use and allow the skin to heal if you experience:
✅ Excessive burning or irritation.
✅ Prolonged darkness that lasts over 3–4 weeks.
✅ Signs of infection (swelling, pus, extreme redness).

Final Thoughts

The XanthRemover can be a powerful tool for reducing dark spots, but proper application, patience, and aftercare are key. By studying and following the instructions for each application, you can safely and effectively lighten the dark/sun spots without causing further damage.
